Question: Flower tattoo designs?
(Posted by: Carrot on 2009-01-03 03:48:09)
I'd love a flower tattoo of a lilly, iris or lotus but dont want anything too colourful and really want it realistic. Most of the ones I have seen are not to my liking, any suggestions of where to look for delicate and pretty flower designs. I am looking to have one on the base of my neck or surrounding a butterfly (that i already have) on my calf Thanks

I had the same problem trying to find refrence for a rose tattoo that I actually liked the look of, Just keep looking, you will find one you like. & & if not, Try the library and if its a good artist, he/ she could probably draw it out for you real nice. GoodLuck xx

I would find some pictures that you like on the internet, in some books, etc. Once you find a nice pic, start looking for an artist. Look at what kind of flower designs the tattoo artist has done. Don't just settle for any local artist. Have him\her draw up the flower for you based on your specifications. I usually do a rough design myself, and then have the artist add their creativity in the final design. I would suggest some sites for flower designs, but realistically the design should be something you pick out for yourself. It means that much more once you've done a lot of the work in your own time.

...the First link has a few excellent lotus pics ...i have not really noticed butterflies hovering around the lotus blossoms though ( i live in south China, where many lotus grow) ...imho, the realistic dreamy coloration depth of a lotus will be difficult to obtain in tatoo art... ...the Second link has a stylization which will likely be alot like a tatoo...(although the yellow color might look awesome with a butterfly flitting nearby) ...the Third link includes a stylized white lotus blossom with the seed pod and a few leaves ....this would be a very nice tatoo, and the blossom color could be balanced to compliment the butterfly color ...personally i would stay with pastels, using the depiction in the third link ...best wishes
